Expect to meet also prostitutes in this area and careful with hard core hustlers. If you go down La Rampa to the Malecon section after Midnight then there will be more gay locals gathering there. We like to see as much as possible when we travel and meet 'real' people rather than just the tourists. I'm interested in this as well as I am planning to go to Havana in June and I have been reading about gay life in Havana for years and wanting to go. Of course there is very little information available now and outdated info might be irrelevant as locations change frequently.

Check out the Cuba Junky website. Lots of info on casas there. There are many gay friendly houses in Havana. Night life has always existed in the City and still goes on. It has been a custom during the last years for the gay community to gather at certain spots.

The blockbuster movie Fresa y Chocolate Strawberry and Chocolate certainly brought the issue to the forefront, yet little has changed in the prevailing views of this macho society.
